2013

Greetings,

It is with sadness that we report the death of Rick Kruger’s father Fred. Rick has played for many years with me, Gibbi, and Bill Dehn and we wish to extend our condolences to Rick and his family. The BOG joins in to express the League’s sympathy.

Captains do not forget that players must play 55% of scheduled games in order to play in our WCC individual events. For those teams with 40 games that is 22 games, For those teams with 36 games that is 20 games. Now is the time to look at your players total games played and adjust accordingly. The BOG will not make exceptions at the end of the season without justification and we will be reluctant to give any waivers.

Nominations for the BOG are still open. They will close on the eighth night of play with the election being held on week nine. Running so far:

MATT REILLY
ROB LEAHY
KENNY CHARPILLOZ
JAKE FISHER
DENNIS RYAN
JEFFREY HERSH
SCHESARY BERRIOS

Sincerely,
Bill Hoover

Greetings,

“Well we’re 5 weeks in and coming up on our fourth fundraiser (five if you include the Friday night at Trunks). Thanks to all who have come out to support the League. We had our biggest fundraiser to date this season, and in recent history, last Sunday. 48 players came to Trunks for the Junior/Senior tournament. Including the 50/50 raffle all of you helped raise a whopping $790! That’s profit! $790 was the final deposit after all expenses were paid out!”

“Let’s keep the ball rolling (no pun intended) this week with Sunday’s 7-8-9 Tournament at Penthouse. As always registration starts at noon and play will begin at 1pm. This is an unpredictable fundraiser as one player will “draw” a ball to decide which game he and his opponent will play. 9 ball = 9 ball and so on. If you draw the cue ball you get your choice of game!”

randydickhensIt is with sadness that we have received news of the passing of Randy Dickhens from brain cancer. He was a BOG member and WCC Hall of Fame Member from Long Beach. We join our sister city in remembering him!

Sincerely,
Bill Hoover

Greetings,

The following members have declared for the BOG: Matt Reilly, Rob Leahy, Kenny Charpilloz, Jake Fisher, Dennis Ryan, and Jeffrey Hersh. Nominations are open until week 8 with voting being held on week 9. If you want to run please inform Bill or Schesary on the Board and/or write BOG runner next to your name on the stats. Good luck to all the BOG Runners.

Thanks to the Oxwood Inn for accommodating the last minute change to Tuesday night’s schedule. Speaking of Tuesday night…. In the match between Gibbi’s Other Door team and Jake’s Gold Coast team we had an unusual happening. Two players had 3 table runs EACH! Jeffrey Hersh and Gibbi Tkatch BOTH had 3 TRs. I have been around a logn time and I believe that is a first! In case anyone is counting Jeffrey had a table run against Gibbi. Gibbi decided to get even and won the balance of his games with TRs.

Sincerely
Bill Hoover

Greetings,

The following are running for the BOG:

MATT REILLY
ROB LEAHY
KENNY CHARPILLOZ
JAKE FISHER
DENNIS RYAN
JEFFREY HERSH
SCHESARY BERRIOS

If you want to join the list simply put “BOG Runner” next to your name in the stats or let Bill Hoover know of your intention to run.  We hope to see everyone at the Junior/Senior at Trunks this weekend. Please remember we must see your ID so you can’t fool us on your REAL age.

Captains...this is the time to begin looking at how many games your players have played. If you had an off night then your players must play at least 20 games to qualify for individual play. If you played all 10 nights your player must play at least 22 games to qualify. This is advance warning. The BOG will make exceptions only in EXTREME cases.

This season has seen a lot of good play. Three players (Cliff Giles, JR., Jeffrey Hersh, and Gibbi Tkatch) lead in the TR race with 3 each. In the race to have highest individual scores Cliff Giles, Jr. and Jose Torres both have a .917 average. For the women, Rita Shemwell leads the pack with a .625 average as we head into the midway point of the season. Keep up the good shooting!

Sincerely,

Bill Hoover

Greetings,

Our League has lost another long time friend and member. Doug McConnell passed away yesterday. He recently has been a regular at Trunks and at many LAPL fundraisers.  This picture is from the Hersh Archives.

We will have an article about him on the web site soon and drink a toast at Trunks on Friday night at the LAPL Fundraiser.

BOG nominations are now officially open, so you can nominate yourself in the stats (simply write “BOG Runner” by your name or in the message box).  So far Matt Reilly and Rob Leahy are running.

We would also like to wish a special welcome to Michael Gressett who won the Greased Lightning tournament.  You are now in the Los Angeles Pool League family.

Don't forget to come out to Trunks Friday night for the fundraiser and again on Sunday for the Lucky Draw.

Sincerely,

Bill Hoover
