We hope you are enjoying the season so far.

Next Tournament: We want to encourage you to come out to our Mini 9 Ball Tournament which will be held this Sunday, September 10 with sign up at 12 noon and play at 1 pm. This tournament will be held at Jerry's Billiards. Participating in these mini tournaments will improve your game. It also allows the opportunity for you to meet new friends who are part of our league.

Pool Party BBQ: We are planning a BBQ fundraiser on October 7 in the Hollywood Hills. This will be a $30 ticket that will include food, swimming and pool. If you are interested in helping or attending, selling tickets or bringing an item for the BBQ, please speak to Al Ballesteros or Allen Montalbano. More information on this to come.

Lost cue: Did anyone leave their cue at Jerry's last Tuesday? If you did, please reply to this email with a description of the case/stick.

Until next time, shoot well and have fun.

Al Ballesteros

Dear LAPL Members:

League Play Starts Tuesday, August 29 The Los Angeles Pool League will begin its Fall 2017 Season this Tuesday on August 29 for the first week of play.   All teams will play at their Home Bars/Locations against their "sister" teams.  Please check out the website to see if you play home or away.  Captains: Please write the names and email addresses of all your teammates on your score sheets so we can add them to our data base for weekly stats and news.  You can also email the names and emails to our list at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

This season, we have 18 teams signed up for the season, up from 14 last season.  We also have several new members spread throughout the league, a returning Sponsor, Little Joy, which last played in the league nearly 20 years ago.  Little Joy is located in Echo Park, at 1477 W. Sunset Blvd., just east of Echo Park avenue at Portia.  We are happy to have them back in our league again and the bar's owner Don came to our member's meeting and is also captaining one of the Little Joy teams.

We continue looking for players who want to sign up for a team.  We anticipate that we can fill teams with alternates and at least one team is in need of two players.  So, if you know people, please refer them.  Send post this information on your Face book pages and get your contacts involved with the league.

Actions from Member's Meeting:  The member's voted to instruct the Board of Governors to investigate what would be needed to move the LA Pool League to a BCA Sanctioned League.  As part of this action, the BOG will gather information from the BCA on being sanctioned, i.e., costs, reporting, ranking of players and what players would need to do to accomplish this.  As part of this due diligence, the BOG will also survey the members, likely in week 3 or 4 to ascertain their thoughts and desires about the LAPL becoming BCA sanctioned league.  Should the a fuller survey of the membership indicate a desire of movement towards BCA sanction, the Board of Governors will begin the work of acquiring this designation.

East / West Division:  This season, the BOG voted to split the LA Pool League into two divisions, so as to minimize the travel time for teams to get to locations to play their games.  As such, we have created a West Hollywood/Silver Lake Division, and an Eastern Pasadena Division which will play its games out of Jerry's Billiards.  We have structured the play schedule so as to keep the West and East Games mostly separate.  For the purposes of ranking, the two divisions will come together in one weekly ranking from 1st to 18th place, in addition to the division ranking.

Our First Mini Tournament was  held August 27:  Our first eight ball tournament was held at Jerry's Billiards in Pasadena with 20 players participating.  We want to thank the new players who came out.  In the end, Ran Raphael won fourth place; Arnell Ferry took third; Al Ballesteros, took second and Jose Torres took first.  It was a fun tournament and everyone shot real well.

9 Ball Individual Winners:  Steve Duckman was third place, Ran Raphael took Second and Gibbi Tkatch took first place.  Congratulations.

The Los Angeles Pool League is a non-profit organization.  This is a volunteer-run organization and all members work on a voluntary basis and there are no paid staff.  All funds collected from teams are used to pay for trophies, our awards party and to send our players to the West Coast Challenge to compete against other players state-wide.

I hope you have a great season.  Please shoot well and have fun.

Al Ballesteros, President

Dear LAPL Members,

Welcome to our first week of stats for the Los Angeles Pool League. For those of you getting this email for the first time, this will be your primary way of receiving information from our league. This information includes weekly stats, upcoming matches, announcements of upcoming mini tournaments and any other league related business which we may need to communicate.

We are off to a great start with 18 teams this season. We have several new teams and captains. Two of our new teams are from Little Joy a returning sponsor which played in the league for many years and last fielded teams approximately 14 years ago. Little Joy is located at 1477 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90026 (213)250-3417. The bar has one pool table and the playing conditions are very good. We welcome their two new captains Don and Marc and all the new players from that location to our LAPL family. We also have several teams situated out of Jerry’s Billiards in Pasadena. Jerry’s is located at 1312 N. Lake Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91104 (626) 791-5114. Ran and Xavier are new captains of two of those teams and have also brought several new players on to their teams. We also welcome them all to the LAPL. I also want to give a shout out to our new Women players: Emily on the Little Joy Coyotes Team, Kristin and Bonnie on the Jerry’s Teams.

We also welcome back all of our returning teams from Public House, Eagle, CFrenz, Gold Coast, Trunks and Bar 10. The LA Pool League is fortunate to have long-time sponsors of the league and we are truly grateful for their continued support.

August 27TH Mini 8 Ball Tournament Results: We want to thank all that came out to our 8 ball tournament which was hosted at Jerry’s Billiards on August 27. In total, 20 players signed up and the competition was strong. In the end, Ran Raphael took Fourth Place; Arnell Ferry took third; Al Ballesteros took Second and Jose Torres took first place. We acknowledge that the tournament took a little longer than usual because we were simultaneously holding our 9-Ball League Individual Playoffs.

9-Ball League Finals: First Place went to Gibbi Tkatch, second Place to Ran Raphael and third place to Steve Duckman. Our first place team was the Gold Coast.

Next Mini Tournament: We will hold a 9-Ball Mini Tournament on Sunday, September 10 at Jerry’s Billiards. Sign up will be at 12 noon and play begins at 1:00 p.m.

We hope you have a great season. Until next time, shoot well and have fun.

Al Ballesteros

Dear LAPL Members,

Fall 2017 Member's Meeting:  Our Member's Meeting for the Fall 2017 Season will take place, this Tuesday, August 22beginning at 8 p.m. at Plumber's Park, Rooms A/B, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA  90046.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. so you can get there and register your teams prior to the meeting.  We need to leave the facility by 9:30 so the meeting will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m.  Attached is an Agenda.  Motions will be accepted from the floor by members.

We are still looking for players, teams and venues.  This season, we are trying to have two divisions:  A West Hollywood/Silver Lake/Hollywood Division and an East/Pasadena Division.  Splitting the league into two areas would greatly reduce the travel time for players to get to locations, if we are able to achieve this.  We are looking for new teams and players to be located at Jerry's in Pasadena.  We are also looking for new players and teams to be located in our current sponsor venues in WeHo, Hollywood and Silver Lake.  If you are interested, please email us here or come to the meeting.

9 Ball Season:   We want to thank our six teams which played in the 9 Ball League.  The final was played by Tod Davenport's Zonkers and Al Ballesteros' Gold Coast Team.  In the end, the Gold Coast Team took first place.  We will be hosting a 9 Ball Individual's Open Tournament on August 27 from 11 to 3 p.m. at Jerry's Billiards in Pasadena.  We will begin our 9 Ball League Awards Party at 3:00 p.m. right after the tournament.  We will have food, raffle prizes and trophies for the top team, special recognitions and top individuals and women players.  We look forward to seeing you on August 27 at Jerry's.
Sincerely yours,

 Al Ballesteros, President
