9 Ball

Greetings,

Oil Can Harry’s will be closed on Sunday and Tuesday nights effective June 21st, 2014.  The new location has not yet been confirmed, contact Gibbi for further information.  It appears that the only visiting teams that are affected are both Oxwood teams.  Please note that this is especially important to any teams that were planning on playing at Oil Can Harry’s for the fall season.  We still have outstanding dues from 2 teams.  PLEASE take care of this on Tuesday.

Well, the mighty have fallen.  There are no undefeated individuals as Bill Hoover finally loses.

Thanks to Schesary and Bryan for website maintenance.

Any problems or issues you can contact Bill or Gibbi at Oxwood on Tuesday or:

Greetings,

The 9 Ball Tournament seems to be flowing along nicely without any drama and everyone seems to understand that the object is to have some fun and fraternize with your opponents.  However, there are some dues outstanding and must be taken care of on June 17th.  Please make arrangements with Gibbi ASAP.  He will make every effort to accommodate those who are trying to schedule a convenient time and location for payment.

On a really sad note, we have lost John Jones, a longtime member of the LA Pool League.  Although John played sparingly in the last few years, you might remember him by the fact that he was probably the person who handled the voting at your location on election night.  Old timers, especially Board of Governor members, remember him for his unabashed support for the League.  He was a fixture at many fundraising events, and even was gracious with monetary donations when the LAPL was in financial difficulty.  A truly great loss.

To All LAPL Members,

We are going to keep the tradition alive for the by coordinating the 9 Ball Tournament for the 32nd Season.  We have named it the George O'Hara Memorial 9 Ball Tournament, George, for a number of years, until he passed away, was the person most associated with this summer tourney.  We also owe a great deal of gratitude to, of course, Bill Hoover who was who was co-chairman for a number of years and took over for George.  All the old timers remember George typing out the statistics on his old Underwood typewriter with the faulty "r".  It is probably the most overlooked and underrated job.  So we like to thank all the statisticians over the years and most recently Schesary for his years of help.  Since it would be extremely difficult for Bill Hoover to administer the festivities from Ohio, Gibbi and myself, will assume most of the duties (under Bill's guidance) this season.

Please contact Gibbi or myself, if you have any questions regarding the rules, if you need help forming teams, utilize possible sponsors, to pay dues, and any other issues.  Gibbi says feel free to call him leave a message on his phone or email him and he will get back to you the same day.  His cell is 818-606-1724 or his email This email address is being protected from spambots. One last reminder, PLEASE pay your dues ASAP. It is really unpleasant to pester people about unpaid dues.  This is supposed to be fun, relaxing and a short night out.  Keep it CASUAL. For example, there is no such thing as a timeout.

Greetings,

The 32nd Annual George O’Hara 9 Ball Tournament is underway, with the maximum total of 12 teams.  The season is 8 weeks long and the first night went uneventful.  Well, maybe not so uneventful.  Bill Hoover, after several years of being the chief coordinator, has assumed an advisory role in his purportedly last season.  Unencumbered, he has adapted well, as he went 4-0 at Oxwood.

We would like to remind those players who have not paid their dues, they must be paid in FULL this Tuesday, June 10, 2014.  ALL players need to have a completed registration form.  Contact Gibbi to make arrangements and help complete the form.

For any rule questions contact Gibbi.  He plays at Public House this Tuesday.

Greetings,

It’s Playoff time...

Just to clarify that in 9-ball there’s unlimited timeouts but try to keep them within 30 seconds or 1 minute.  In Playoffs, there is a time limit of 1 minute for timeouts.

Please take a picture of your scoresheet and text it to Malisa at 619-990-5208.  Make sure that it is legible and mark down all 9ball snaps and 9ball break and runs.

Thank you and Have Fun!
Malisa
