Dear Members,

Attached are week eight stats.  

Post Season and West Coast Challenge Qualifying Events:

After week ten, we our league will go into playoffs.  Teams:  The top 16 teams make playoffs.  Playoffs for teams will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Playoffs will begin on Thursday, November 2.  The team playoff bracket will be posted by November 1, and for teams in the top 16 that plan to play in playoffs, please note that the first night of Playoffs will be on Thursday, November 2.  Playoff locations will be posted on the brackets.   This will be the first time that our league’s two divisions will mix and will be ranked according to percentage of games won.  The top team will represent LA in the West Coast Challenge in Long Beach, usually held the first weekend in January 2018. 

Hi-Lo Tournament:  The hi-lo is a scotch doubles tournament where the players are paired according to games won. Those with higher numbers of games won are paired with those with lower games won.  This is a West Coast Challenge Qualifying event and the winning team will represent Los Angeles.  This tournament will be played on Saturday, November 18 with signup at 10 a.m. at Jerry’s Billiards.  Play begins promptly at 11 a.m. and you must sign up before 11. 

Individuals and Women’s Tournament:   December 9 at 8 a.m. will be our Individuals Tournament.  Play will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and you must sign up before 9.  Our Women’s Tournament will also be held on Saturday December 9 with sign up at 11 a.m.  and play beginning promptly at 12 noon.  You must sign up before 12 noon.  The top 7 individuals and top 4 women will qualify for West Coast Challenge.  The top 7 individuals will play for position on Sunday, December 10 beginning at 12 noon also at Jerry’s billiards. 

Rising Star Tournament (Last Chance Qualifier):  On Sunday, December 10 at 11 a.m. we will host our Rising Star Tournament.  This is a West Coast Challenge Qualifying Event.  Sign up  will begin at 11 a.m. with play beginning at 12 noon.  You must sign up before 12 noon.  This tournament is open for players of the league who have not previously participated in a West Coast Challenge event, with the exception of the Hi-Lo.

Pick A Partner Results:  Thanks to everyone who came out to last Sunday's scotch doubles at Little Joy.  We had 13 teams attend and in the end:  Ken Lee and Seromi Kim/Arturo Carillo took first; and Jose Torres and Al Ballesteros took second.  In third place was Johhny R., and Mario S and in fourth place was Don A., and Ben S.  A big thanks to our hosts at Little Joy.  

Board:  There were three open seats for the board and three nominations, Al, Malisa and Arturo.  All are current board members.

October 31st matches:  We are informed that some venues will not be available for matches on Halloween.  Therefore, we are asking our captains to choose an alternate date to play this match.  We do need this match completed before October 31st so we can do the playoff brackets.  Please talk to a board member if you need assistance with this.

Next Tournament: This Sunday, October 15 @ 12 pm at Little Joy will be our scotch doubles pick a partner Tournament. Bring someone you want to play with or match yourselves there. Alternate shots at the table. Sign up at 12 noon and play at 1 pm.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our End of Summer Pool Party. There were approximately 50 attendees for BBQ, swimming and pool. The venue was spectacular and the vibe was happening. There were several new supporters who came out to make this event a success. We especially thank Allen, Arturo, Malisa, Cliff, Jose, Monty, Todd and Gibbi for their help on this. This was a great first event of its kind.

Board: If you are interested in serving on the board, please let us know. We have three open seats and nominated so far are: Al, Malisa and Arturo. Ran has been appointed to the board to fill the term of Allen Montalbano who is needing to step down do to moving out of the area. Dear Members,

Attached are week six stats. 

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 7th, will be our End of Summer Pool Party.  Get wet, play pool, eat BBQ, hang with friends and have fun.  But you must get your tickets now or at the event.  It will start at 12 noon and the address is 2907 Lakeridge Drive., Hollywood, 90068.  The tickets are $30 and you can get yours at the door or call me at 323-353-0715.  Bring your swimming suites and pool sticks.  Bring a couple friends to support the league.  There will be lots of food and drinks included in the admission price.  Email us here is you have questions.

Next Tournament: Sunday, October 15 @ 12 pm at Little Joy will be our Pick a Partner Tournament.  There is a 8 ball scotch doubles event. Sign up at 12 noon and play at 1 pm.

Congrats to Jose Torres who took first place in the Greased Lightening Event and Kerri Frasca who took second; coming in third was Al Ballesteros.  Thanks to all who came out to play.

Board Nominations: If you are interested in serving on our board of Governors, please write your name on the scoresheet before the end of week 7.  Those nominated so far for the three open seats are: Al Ballesteros, Malisa Mapu and Arturo Carrillo.  Elections will take place in week 9.  These are volunteer positions and one-year appointed terms. 

Games on October 31, Halloween: If your team and the team you are playing do not want or can not play on Halloween, please work it out with that captain and your players to reschedule the match to a different day.  We will need to get the scoresheets by October 31st at the latest.  We anticipate team playoffs will start Thursday, November 2.
